Our Charities
Ian and Sally Frost founded Newton & Frost Fencing Ltd (NFF Ltd) in 1979 with a loan of £2,000. They began with farm and domestic fencing and quickly progressed to new road projects.
Apart from installing acoustic (noise) and crash barrier fencing, their Horam premises have a very well stocked timber yard supplying the trade and general public with timber and steel building materials, tools etc. at low prices. NFF Ltd. is now a leader in their industry with a wealth of knowledge and an excellent national reputation.
A few years ago they opened up their fast-growing timber buildings division offering a complete design service of stunning buildings ranging from contemporary garden offices, summerhouses, workshops, sheds, log cabins to bespoke builds.
NFF's equestrian buildings section is a proud supplier to The All England Jumping Course at Hickstead, British Eventing as well as the general public.
The Company's values are honesty, integrity and mutual respect which extends to both employees and clients. NFF's nominated charity is the youth foundation; Wealden Works. This wonderful organisation helps struggling youngsters in the local area, to make a successful transition from full-time education to the workplace. Over the years more than 30 students from Wealden Works have secured either work experience or employment with NFF Ltd. Another charitable link is with Plumpton College's Supported Internship Programme at Hastings which helps students learn practical skills that can be transferred to the workplace.
Based in a rural location, NFF supports other local businesses and sources employees from the surrounding villages where possible.
YOUTH CHARITY SUPPORT
NFF has been an important part of their rural community for over 40 years and fully understands the difficulties facing young people in the surrounding area.
The surrounding countryside used to offer many employment opportunities for school leavers in agriculture and related jobs but over time these industries have greatly reduced whereas the population has increased hugely.
Schools and colleges used to offer a variety of hands-on work experience schemes for their less academic students but unfortunately this is no longer available and careers advice is not so readily available leaving pupils with less understanding of their ongoing options. Academic students may perform well at school but can find it difficult to work out what to do with their lives once they finish their time at either school, college or University.
Without guidance, young people can get lost and depressed. A lack of structure means they can resort to gaming for much of the night and sleeping for most of the day. Very sadly some get lured into the wrong company and find themselves caught up with drugs and other antisocial behaviour. Their mental health can suffer hugely and their confidence can be at an all time low.
Wealden Works https://www.wealdenworks.co.uk/ is a charity designed to support 16-24 year olds who need a helping hand to move their lives forwards. The compassionate, experienced team at Wealden Works spends time with each individual on the program, helping them to understand their strengths, building their confidence and working with them as they embark on the next stage of their lives, whether that be in further education or in employment. Free counselling is available to students that require it, as part of the program.
NFF recognises the invaluable work Wealden Works carries out and has been a staunch supporter of the charity since its inception. We have provided work experience for many students and given a number of them permanent employment within the company. Our staff enjoy helping the charity by either running fundraising events or giving talks to the cohorts. They love being involved and observing the difference it makes to these young people having the chance to interact with those in a working environment.
NFF believes everyone deserves a chance and feels privileged to be involved with such a worthwhile scheme.
One of our Directors, Sally Frost is an active board member and co-founder of the charity.
